Centre for High Technology (CHT) was established as a dedicated technology cell of Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MOP&NG) in 1987 to assess futuristic requirements, acquire, develop and adopt technologies in the fields of refinery processes, petroleum products, work relating to modernisation of technologies etc. CHT was registered as a Society, under Societies Registration Act of 1860, on 09-03-1992.
CHT is headed by an Executive Director (ED) and functions under the overall guidance and supervision of the Governing Council (GC) with Secretary, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India as its Chairman.
There is also an Executive Committee to carry out the directions of the Governing Council and for implementing plans and programmes of CHT.
All the officers/staff are on deputation to CHT from downstream PSU oil companies, viz., IOCL, BPCL, HPCL, GAIL and EIL or superannuated senior level officers from PSU oil companies as Advisors on contract.
The expenditure of CHT is funded through grants from OIDB.
