Query Raised By: , ,

How the skin temperature indications in the CCR furnace (Fuel is Refinery Fuel gas) are validated? By thermography or Pyrometer or Theoretical calculation method?

Infra red thermography is the ideal way to validate TST in CCR heater. However care needs to be taken w.r.t. the capability of the Camera. The camera needs filter out the wave length emitted from flue gas / flame i.e. it should have flame filter. Otherwise it will capture temperature of flue gas and indicate wrong readings. Secondly the thermography camera shall be of very high level of accuracy. One needs to be careful about the accuracy number against the temperature indicated not against the band chosen. Is any reliable make Camera available for measuring TST in CCR heater ? What is Industry experience ?

Yes. We (HPCL Mumbai Refinery) are using FLIR short wave camera. Its accuracy level is 2% against measured temperature, which is considered high. There are there are other make too. e.g. Micron etc. One needs to be careful w.r.t accuracy of captured temperature. Also the infrared spectral ranges of the lenses is very important parameter while choosing the camera. For Refineries, ideal spectral range is 3.5 micrometers.
