Corrosion Inhibitor injection in pipelines is done to mitigate the corrosive effects of pipeline fluid. Therefore, the benefits / results achieved by CI injection will vary from one case to another. Since most CI are film forming barrier type, it is expected to alleviate the corrosive action of acid gases in the presence of moisture to varying degree based on the type of CI and the extent presence of corrosive agents in pipeline fluid. Typically a CI injection scheme is designed for a defined ‘Integrity Operating Window (IOW)’ taking into consideration the pipeline operating conditions. A robust corrosion monitoring system is integral to a successful CI injection so that dozing is tuned to the operating conditions.
